Join us for a discussion of the book/movie, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot.
The book/movie are about how an immortal cell line was generated from cervical cancer cells taken from Henrietta Lacks in 1951. We will discuss the dark history of experimentation on African Americans, the birth of bioethics, and the legal battles over who owns and controls genetic material.
For this discussion, you will need to read the book and/or watch the movie before the discussion. Copies of both the movie and the book are available for check-out from your favorite JCPL Branch.
