Basic Firearms Safety Workshop

D.J. Nuetzmann from the Johnson County Sheriff's Department will discuss basic firearm safety. Learn about proper firearm storage, how to use locks, and other safety mechanisms.

Firearms are the most lethal means of suicide in the United States and household gun ownership accounts for more than half of youth suicides age 14-18 years old. In this class, learn about basic safety measures such as gun locks, safety mechanisms and gun storage in the home and your vehicle.

This program is a partnership between The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Johnson County and JCPL. Each attendee receives a free gun lock and information about how you can help prevent suicide.  

Firearms are not permitted in the course as this is an educational course taught by professionals.

D.J. Nuetzmann is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Certified Firearms Instructor, NRA Instructor for civilian/law enforcement, the primary instructor for The Shooting Institute of Indiana, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Firearms Instructor, and a former competitor of the United States Practical Shooting Association.
